It’s Easier To Write When You’re Dancing — Metaphorically

I feel like a lot of authors listen to certain bands and authors while writing (or I made this up, either/or).

When I was writing sections of Stuff Hipsters Hate, I listened to “Navajo” by the Black Lips on repeat. Mostly to drown out the idiot with the typewriter who decided to get all anachronistic at El Beit.

Lately, I’ve been listening to a ton, and I do mean a ton, of bands featuring Nick Diamonds (Islands, Unicorns, Mister Heavenly, anything that sounds borderline if not all-out twee). Mostly because bands featuring Mister Diamonds usually pen dark lyrics about death that dwell within pretty musical houses.

Therefore, I made you all a playlist! For the sake of avoiding tedium, I included some other songs and artists that seem to conjure all the feeling of my novel-in-progress, Grey, as well.

Writer’s Note: I’m coming up on a scene in which the lead singer of an obnoxious synth band falls off of a roof. So that should all kinds of dark.

Welcome to My Website [AWKWARD]

To quote WordPress, “Hello World!” My name is Brenna Ehrlich, and I write things.

Despite working for the Internet (as an editor at Mashable.com and co-writer of Stuff Hipsters Hate), I have had yet to host my own website — until now. (Putting aside, for the moment, the crime-reporting site I had in grad school, Watching the Detectives.)

Not quite sure what this one will entail, but it will likely feature my writing. If that doesn’t entice you, you know what to do — click that little red button over yonder.
